Photography is a way for me to capture and express the beauty of what I see through my camera lens. I have always had a fascination with capturing the beauty in our “moments of life” and use photography to express myself and bring out the best when photographing people or other subjects. My specialty is “Lifestyle” portraits, children & families, special events (including weddings) and destination photography. Through constant research for new techniques and attention to lighting, composition, and detail, I am always looking for new and creative ways to bring uniqueness into my work by using the camera and while doing post-processing work.
My passion for photography was found at age 22 when I began working with a photographer at a local wedding studio as the ‘set-up girl’. I was the ‘second eyes’, ensuring that composition was correct, the subjects were posed properly and everything was ‘right’ before the photographer took his picture.
Being fascinated with the technical side of photography and wanting to learn more, I soon purchased my first camera. The ‘old days’ of a perfectly posed photo has loosened and many clients now want a more ‘casual, candid look’ to their photos. Also, the ‘subjects’ are real people… each unique in their own way, but all wanting the same thing … great photos. I pride myself in working closely with all my clients to get that special look they want and sometimes don’t even KNOW they want until they see the final results. Gently posed arrangements are still done as many clients also request photos with more structure; an example is when I arrange a young lady for a glamour shot or a group shot of a family.
My first camera was definitely not my last. I have continued to upgrade my equipment and now shoot with both a Canon 5D, Mark II as well as a Canon 40D. Lenses are all professional, top quality and include: the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM, EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, EF 100mm f/2.8L USM macro, EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF 17-40 f/4L USM, EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM to name a few. Having top quality equipment will ensure crisp, professional photographs.
I have adopted a “Lifestyle” photojournalistic approach in answer to a more candid look, and enjoy working as the quiet observer of a journalist, the person there to report what they saw, not improve it, arrange it, stage it, prompt it, fictionalize it, but rather just capture it … capturing YOUR moments, at their best!
